I was born and raised in Laurinburg NC, but currently reside in Hope Mills NC. I am a self-taught artist and have always loved art even as a little girl. Words can't explain the joy I feel when being creative, although, this has not always been the feeling. At the age of 19, I lost interest in drawing and gave it up. Life just seemed to have taken me in a different direction. I didn't finish school and became a mother.

One never knows how hard life can be without and education until you have experienced it, and boy, did I !!! It was very hard being a single mother without an education. One day I realized no one could change things, but me, and I knew in my heart I wanted and needed to go back to school, not only for myself but for my son so he could see that anything is possible if you only put your mind to it.

At the age of 34 I finally got up the nerve to go back. It was hard but I got through it, and made sure I walked that stage as proud as I could. The look on my son's face that day was priceless, he was so proud of me!! All the long hours of studying finally paid off, but I didn't stop there. I went on to attend a local community college. I signed up for all my classes and needed one more. A very good friend pointed out to me a drawing class that was offered. I didn't hesitate for a minute and was very excited about taking the class. Needless did I know this class would change my life forever.

The first day of drawing class we all were told to find a picture of anything we wanted to draw off the internet.  As I was searching, the one picture that stood out to me the most was a portrait picture of Jesus, I printed the portrait and knew I had to do the best I have ever done. I was so into making it as perfect as I could. I didn't see how good it was till my friend beside me stopped me and said, "Amy, I knew you could draw, but not like that" I pulled my head up slowly to see for myself and I was just as shocked!! It was my best drawing ever, and I was so proud!! I still have this drawing today and have not stopped drawing since. I realized yet again, that this was my life and Jesus was showing me the way.

That drawing of Jesus changed my life and is the reason I am where I am today. I will never give up on my dream again. I want to thank everyone that has shown and interest in me and my art and hope you continue to watch me grow because this is only the beginning!!!

I want to also say to all the young single mothers out there who don't have the confidence they need to change their lives, there is hope. We all have it in us, you just have to want it. I am proof that if you want something bad enough you can achieve it!!

Again, Thank you...
